Random Thoughts – Paris

  • Most useful app has been “Transit” for train, bus and Velo bike rentals. That, and a compass app so we know what direction to go when leaving a subway.
  • On the street, no one looks you in the eye. Even babies look away quickly. In shops however, as long as we attempt French, everyone is very helpful.
  • Here is a collection of photos that don’t fit a particular post, or remind me of someone, or I just want to share…..

Real Parisians

Feeling like locals tonight. Went to an Edith Piaf retrospective at 19:00, then dinner at 22:30. The show was at Essaion Theater, literally a cave, seating just 50 people. Caroline Nin performed the one woman show, all in French. We had reviewed Piaf’s biography before the show so I was able to follow along fairly well. Good music at a unique venue.

Versailles – Paris

Over-the-top opulence and very touristic. The 7 Euro extra for a tour of the private quarters was well worth the cost to avoid waiting in line to get in, and to access sights way from the mobs of tourists.

Cooking Class – Paris

We both took a technical cooking class and learned how to de-bone a chicken. Bill was able to remove the wish bone whole, while most of us ended up breaking it. We also prepared traditional French onion soup, and made caramel sauce.  Our class of 7 all ate together and shared our travel adventures.

Paris Food

I am known for taking lots of food pictures when I travel and Paris is certainly a Foodies delight. I am trying to control that tendency but I can’t resist posting a few random food related pictures that don’t fit other posts…..
